Community volunteers across the world have been celebrating the centenary of the world’s largest service club organisation, ‘Lions Clubs International’, and the Lions Club in Macclesfield is marking 45 years of service to our local community.
With more than 1.4 million members in approximately 46,000 clubs across more than 200 countries and geographical areas around the world, they are operated by an enthusiastic membership affectionately known as ‘Lions’.
Over its existence, Macc Lions fund raise and donate over £18,000 every year to good causes and carry out welfare work such as distributing 200 Christmas food parcels and providing trips for senior citizens, essential help to those less fortunate and have even funded the erection of defibrillators in public spaces and enabled young people to travel to disadvantaged areas of the globe and improve the quality of life.
Their motto ‘We Serve’ is very much their ethos and the slogan ‘Where There’s a Need There’s A Lion’ is very much what they live by. As well as their service work, members enjoy a great social diary of meals, entertainment nights and even conventions across the UK and beyond to meet other Lions and see what is happening within the organisation across the globe.
Lions Clubs are always looking for new members to help them fulfil their charitable work, with the only stipulation that you need to be over 18. To find out more, get in touch with them on social media or call 07873 485265
